JDM Associates was selected in 2006 by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) to develop strategy, outreach, and educational materials targeting commercial real estate professionals of the Pacific Northwest. Under the BetterBricks Initiative, JDM’s continuing efforts consist of market transformation activities seeking to catalyze greater adoption of energy efficiency as a competitive advantage among NW office buildings.
JDM leveraged its experience and relationships with commercial real estate leaders to implement a number of successful programs, including creating a market assessment characterizing NW building ownership, designing and creating the High Performance Portfolio Framework, pilot testing and launching NEEA’s Market Partner Program, and publishing of over 20 articles and educational documents available on BetterBricks.com. JDM staff conceptualized and launched the Kilowatt Crackdown and Carbon4Square energy efficiency competitions in partnership with BOMA Seattle and BOMA Portland, and is now developing guidance and online tools to aid real estate investors on the implementation of Deep Retrofits, defined as projects saving 35% or more in energy. Through these efforts, NEEA has directly influenced hundreds of real estate professionals representing upwards of 40 million square feet of commercial office buildings.
