JDM has assisted WAPA by providing strategic and technical guidance, policy analysis, and public education and outreach to engage and educate stakeholders. JDM designed and coordinated a water and energy efficiency campaign focused on reliability and pricing, transmission and delivery, and other environmental issues facing this 100% oil-based utility. We provided marketing and outreach communications to educate consumers about energy savings in their homes, businesses, schools and government agencies. Additionally, we developed consumer surveys, print, radio, television articles, and advertisements highlighting energy-saving tips, the benefits of renewable energy, and the impact of climate change in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In support of Virgin Islands Energy Education Week, we delivered presentations on energy savings to schools and businesses and facilitated “Change a Light” events at which WAPA distributed 60,000 energy-efficient CFLs to customers free-of-charge. Because of these efforts, we dramatically increased consumer awareness of energy efficiency in the U.S Virgin Islands, and WAPA was awarded the 2008 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award.
