For more than a decade, JDM has been actively involved in the development and deployment of the U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR program for commercial real estate, which assists owners and managers to increase the profitability and value of their properties through energy efficiency changes. A core component of the ENERGY STAR program is the opportunity for top commercial properties to earn the ENERGY STAR label, signifying superior energy efficiency.
JDM works with clients to first benchmark their properties using EPA’s Portfolio Manager, which assigns an energy performance rating on a scale of 1 to 100. Buildings earning a 75 or higher are eligible for the ENERGY STAR label. We then work with clients to assess opportunities and implement energy-efficiency improvements to increase ENERGY STAR ratings. We facilitate the review and certification process by working with on-site property management teams, professional engineers, and EPA staff. Through regular reports to executives and managers, we monitor the status of labeling activities and ensure that all opportunities are captured.
