Deb Cloutier has almost 20 years of experience in the commercial real estate, energy efficiency, sustainability, marketing, and education arenas. Deb serves as JDM’s Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for business development, financial oversight, project management, and staffing. She provides strategy and guidance to leading owners, managers, developers, and asset advisors of commercial real estate, employing market-based strategies to link environmental and financial performance; through this guidance, she assists and motivates decision makers to make profitable investments in energy performance improvements. Deb also designs and implements strategic energy management and market transformation programs, launches marketing and communications campaigns, and develops brand positioning tactics.
Deb was an integral part of the design and implementation of the U.S. EPA ENERGY STAR program, and has been an active consultant since the program’s inception as Green Lights in the early 1990s. Her experience includes developing curricula and conducting training on energy efficiency, sustainable business practices, and organizational change management. More than 18,000 practitioners have attended these courses, which set the bar for energy management education in the real estate industry.
Deb has published dozens of articles and papers for top real estate publications, authored The High Performance Portfolio Framework: Energy Management Strategies for a Competitive Office Market for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, and is a co-author of A Practical Guide to Energy Management from the Institute of Real Estate Management. In 2008, Deb was awarded the prestigious BOMA Chairman’s Award, given to visionaries who set new standards of excellence in the commercial real estate industry. She holds a BS in Biology with a specialization in Environmental Science from Washington College.
